It is recommended that a short question statement be established on how to check the leg pads after the suspension of the mine has ended: the site is a post-heavy extraction site inspection, with the main anomalies being the fine cracks, pressure marks and hole damage that may affect the next mission, who is the target and when recovery is necessary. This distinguishes between security issues that must be immediately isolated, control issues that can be maintained, and long-term issues that need to be redesigned.
The selection may be in three steps: the first step is to verify the work of the crane, the length of the arm, the point of return, the maximum retrogression of the leg, the size of the foot and the ground-based load; the second step is to make it possible for the next mission to be converted into a load, friction, shock or grinding demand; and the third step is to perform a post-cleaning check of the flatness, edges, posts and to establish a traceable record. The request for quotation documents should indicate the frequency, life expectancy and maintenance of the leg pads. The increase in thickness usually also increases weight and handling difficulties and therefore cannot automatically be equated with “more suitable”.

The records should cover normal and most unfavourable work situations, with particular attention to the possible impact of fine cracks, pressure marks and perforations on the next mission. Only when the test data are stable, the maintenance workload is acceptable and confirmed by project management and security personnel will it be appropriate to expand the application.
Finally, this paper provides a selection and management approach, with no alternatives to equipment specifications, special programmes, geological evaluations and local regulations. Work involving lifting support, ramps, ditches, vehicle lifts or personnel entering the carriage shall be reviewed and quarantine, locking and emergency procedures carried out by suitably qualified personnel.
